September Celebrations: Harvest Feasting and Pumpkin Moonshine

As the air turns crisp and the fall colors glow here in southern Vermont, the Tasha Tudor Society chapters have been celebrating autumn in true Tasha style.

Guests at the Central New York Chapter’s
harvest supper

The Central New York Chapter, one of our newest, served a “Harvest of Tasha Tudor Traditions” supper and washed it down with tea and Switchel. The meal was served overlooking gardens and a field of pumpkins. Former New Hartford, New York librarian, Barbara Brown, shared her knowledge and her private Tasha Tudor collection while Mary Spencer of Truxton, New York shared flower arranging tips and sent each guest home with a handmade harvest flower centerpiece.

The Pennsylvania Chapter’s “Pumpkin Moonshine”
reenactment

In Mechanicsburg, the Pennsylvania Chapter commemorated the 80th anniversary of Tasha’s first book, Pumpkin Moonshine, with candle-dipping, cider pressing and a charming reenactment of the story. In the barnyard, guests read in unison while 4 year-old “Sylvie Ann” and dog, Cooper, chased a large, orange ball down from the cornfield with homemade, cardboard animals looking on. Finally, “Sylvie Ann” got to carve her pumpkin moonshine.
