Poetry of the Human Experience

A cornerstone of Tasha’s legacy was her ability to feel the poetry of the human experience. In 1964 Tasha selected poems to illustrate in Wings from the Wind including the following:

DUST OF SNOW
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

-Robert Frost

Speaking of snow, many of you have shared photos of your snowdrops blooming, your daffodils and tulips peeking up through bare earth. But here in Vermont, 14” of snow fell last weekend with a comparable storm expected in a few days.

Don’t despair for us! More snow is a boon to the late winter firewood harvests. Yes, one can harvest logs anytime of year, but with the deep snow, the forest floor and the tender amphibians nestled within are left undisturbed.

The copy of the Wings from the Wind we were working from today has another treasure particular to this copy. We close this post with the original gift inscription and its implications for how Tasha wove through the fabric of families.

This is the legacy that the Society celebrates. Thank you to the Society supporters who make this ‘work’ possible.
