The Tasha Tudor Society is delighted to announce our first-ever nationwide Tasha Tudor Day event for Society members, chapter participants, friends, and fans.
This special Zoom gathering will bring enthusiasts together from across the country for a time of connection, conversation, and shared appreciation for Tasha’s art, books, gardens, handwork, home life, and timeless way of living.
Program Speakers
Tasha Tudor Scholar and Society member, Jeanette Chandler Knazek, will discuss Tasha’s book Becky’s Birthday. Collecting Tasha’s books, artwork and ephemera since 1958, Jeanette has given diverse presentations about Tasha’s talents and has also written many published articles related to Tasha’s life and art. Jeanette co-curated Tasha Tudor: Around the Year, a traveling exhibition organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum.
Becky’s Birthday introduced one of Tasha Tudor’s quintessential traditions of the floating birthday cake, based on the true story of a birthday party held for Tasha’s daughter Bethany. Tasha’s son Seth really did have to jump into the river to rescue the cake before it floated downriver. This book is beloved by many, including, but not limited to a subset of adults who just so happened to be named Becky and to have been children when this book was released in 1960.
Society member Karl Peterson has the distinction of having experienced a Tasha Tudor “river party” in his youth. Karl and his sister visited Tasha’s New Hampshire home with his grandparents, Otto and Helen Hilbert. One such visit in the 1950s included a floating birthday cake for his sister’s birthday.
A Woodrow Wilson Fellow with a M.Arch and MBA in Finance, Karl ran operations for financial services companies from Merrill Lynch to Lehman Bros. to GE Captial and more. Now “retired,” he teaches Operations and Strategic Management at the College of New Jersey.
Karl’s family and their friendship with Tasha was featured in the Spring/Summer 2026 issue of the Journal of the Tasha Tudor Society. Tasha and Otto (of Corning Glass Works fame) collaborated to produce many pieces of miniature glassware for Tasha’s dollhouse, including goblets, glasses, finger bowls, and even a lighted chandelier.
Amy Tudor, Executive Director of the Tasha Tudor Society, started gardening for Tasha in 1998, married Tasha’s grandson Winslow in 2004, and founded the Tasha Tudor Society in 2006 after seeing the tremendous impact Tasha’s work had on her followers.
Though Amy has never experienced a Tasha Tudor floating cake party as Karl has, she has enjoyed cakes baked and floated by Winslow on Tasha’s Vermont pond, and even in barrels – including one for Tasha’s Centenary birthday celebration in 2015.
Society member and Twin Cities, Minnesota Chapter leader, Cynthia Ali has organized the event and will be our host for the gathering. Cynthia has enjoyed Tasha’s books since she was a little girl when her grandparents gave her a copy of Take Joy! The Tasha Tudor Christmas Book.
In addition to being a Tasha Tudor Society volunteer, Cynthia is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano, teaching piano through her business Cynthia Ali Studios. She is also the Publicity Chair of the Saint Paul Piano Teachers Association and is a Freelance Graphic Designer.
In addition to the speakers, we’ll host Tasha Talk Rooms where attendees will have a chance to meet and visit with fellow Tasha Tudor fans and enthusiasts. All are invited to this free event, you don’t have to be a dues-paying Society member to attend.
